Supstancijalna bliskost koncepata i spomenuta otvorenost zahtijevaju poja\u010dan napor kako bi se razli\u010diti pristupi njihovom istra\u017eivanju sagledali, usporedili i me\u0111usobno povezali u koherentnu cjelinu znanstvenih spoznaja. Najva\u017enija razlika koju bismo mogli odrediti jest ta da koncept otpornosti stavlja ve\u0107i naglasak na uznemiruju\u0107e doga\u0111aje, prilagodbu i oporavak. Odr\u017eivost se usredoto\u010duje na \u2018temeljne uzroke\u2019 (budu\u0107ih) poreme\u0107aja nagla\u0161avaju\u0107i ubla\u017eavanje klime i ideju socijalne sigurnosti. Koncept odr\u017eivosti se etablirao kao dio dru\u0161tvenih znanosti i danas je ekolo\u0161ka dimenzija samo jedan od \u010detiri stupa odr\u017eivosti te \u010dini temelj onog \u0161to danas nazivamo odr\u017eivim razvojem. I pojam otpornosti koji je pozicioniran u \u0161iri kontekst socio-ekolo\u0161kog sistema zbog \u010dega je koncept otpornosti smje\u0161ten u globalni diskurs. Me\u0111utim, treba imati na umu da kada govorimo o otpornosti socio-ekolo\u0161kog sistema ne govorimo samo o apstraktnom sistemu na koji utje\u010du nepredvidive i neo\u010dekivane ekolo\u0161ke neda\u0107e, ve\u0107 govorimo i o dugoro\u010dnim izazovima koje se doga\u0111aju iznutra, odnosno proizlaze iz same zajednice koju pak moramo razumijevati u globalnom, ali i nacionalnom, regionalnom i lokalnom kontekstu. Uzimaju\u0107i u obzir navedeno, u diskurs otpornosti neminovno je uklju\u010diti dru\u0161tvenu, kulturnu i prostornu otpornost kao stupove koji zajedno omogu\u0107avaju odr\u017eivost otpornosti. Primarna svrha analize i evaluacije navedenih koncepata u ovome izlaganju jest poku\u0161aj postavljanje integrativnog teorijskog okvira za istra\u017eivanje urbanih i ruralnih prostora i lokalnih zajednica iz sociolo\u0161ke perspektive. Razumijevanje socijalne i kulturne otpornosti usko je vezano uz koncept zajednice kao aktera u tom dinami\u010dnom procesu. U kontekstu socijalne otpornosti kao alata za unapre\u0111enje (ruralnog i urbanog) prostora koncept zajednice gotovo je od presudne va\u017enosti za razumijevanje suvremenih socio-prostornih odnosa.
